Formal Greetings
“Hello”
اسلام عليکم – (asalåm alaykum) Peace be with you.
و عليکم – (walaikum) And with you.

The Host Says:
ستړی مه شی – (starlay ma shey) May you not be tired. “Welcome” (to males)
ستړې مه شی – (starlee ma shey) May you not be tired. “Welcome” (to females)

The Guest Answers:
خوار مه شی – (khwår ma shey) May you not be miserable. “Thank you” (to males)
خواره مه شی – (khwåra ma shey) May you not be miserable. “Thank you” (to females)

Informal Greetings Initiations and Questions
سلام – (salåm) Hello/Hi
څنګه يې؟ – (tsanga yey) How are you?
جوړ يې؟ – (joorl yey) Are you healthy? (to males)
جوړه يې؟ – (joorla yey) Are you healthy? (to females)
ښه جوړيې – (sha joorl yey) Are you really healthy? (to males)
ښه جوړه يې؟ – (sha joorla yey) Are you really healthy? (to females)

Greetings/Initiations Answers
ځه ښه يم – (za sha yam) I am well.
ځه ښه نه يم- (za sha nayam) I am not well.
جوړ يم – (joorl yam) I am healthy (if you are male)
جوړه يم – (joorla yam) I am healthy (if you are female)
مننه – (manana) Thank you. (end the above sentences with this)

Saying Goodbye
خدای په امان. – (khodåy pah mån) May God save you.
مخه دې ښه. – (makha dey sha) Goodbye. (Said in response to khodåy pah mån)

Typical Greeting Dialogue (Meeting in neutral ground)
A: اسلام عليکم (asalam alaikum)
B:  و عليکم (walaikum)
A: څنګه يې؟ (tsanga yey?)
B:  ځه ښه يم. مننه. جوړ يې؟ (za sha yam. manana. joorl yey?)
A: جوړ يم. مننه (joorl yam. manana)

Typical Greeting Dialogue (Where A is the host, B is guest)
A: ستړی مه شی (starlay ma shey)
B: خوار مه شی (khuar ma shey)
A: څنګه يې؟ (tsanga yey?)
B:  ځه ښه يم. مننه. جوړ يې؟ (za sha yam. manana. joorl yey?)
A: جوړ يم. مننه (joorl yam. manana)
